Information You Submit
When you enter an address or owner name, the search form sends that text to the outside provider that supplies results. We do not keep a separate copy of those searches on our own server. A message sent through a contact route contains only the information you choose to provide, which is used to respond.
Basic Technical Logs
The host may record routine server data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time stamps. These logs help keep the service stable and show, in aggregate, which reference pages are used. Basic analytics or advertising measurement may also use cookies or similar tools where enabled.
How Information Is Used
Information described above supports site operation, troubleshooting, traffic measurement, and page improvements. We do not sell a visitor list or create personal profiles of individual users.
Outside Portals and Search Providers
Brooke County links lead to the County Clerk, Assessor, Sheriff Tax Office, MapWV, courts, and city records. Those portals have their own privacy terms. Information entered there is handled by the custodian or provider under its rules. Sponsored search results are supplied by an outside company, whose data practices are separate from this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
Service providers that host and support the site process server logs for us. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose data when a valid legal process requires it, and not otherwise.
Safeguards and Retention
The site uses an encrypted connection. Server logs are retained only for the operational purposes described above. Because the site has no account system, it does not hold a visitor password or account profile.
Users Under 18
This site is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Choices and Public Records
You may ask about information submitted directly to this reference using the Contact page. The research sources document West Virginia FOIA, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., as the public-records request law; they do not identify a general consumer-privacy statute governing county property files. Public deeds, assessment cards, tax records, and court files remain under the control of the office that keeps them. Correction or access requests for those records go to that custodian, not to this reference.
West Virginia also has specific privacy limits: vital records have statutory opening periods under W. Va. Code §16-5-27, address-confidentiality protections are available through Safe at Home, and DMV data is subject to the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. A public property search should not be used to publish protected addresses or personal data.
Updates to This Policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the update.
